What Is Coaching?
A working definition — and what VCN coaching is not.
Coaching is one tool. Knowing when to use it — and when to reach for something else — matters.
Definitions
Four disciplines. Four different jobs.
| Coaching | Structured, forward-looking conversations. The coach asks, listens, and holds you accountable to the outcomes you set. |
|---|---|
| Mentorship | A more experienced practitioner sharing what they've done. Less structured, often relationship-driven. |
| Consulting | An expert diagnoses your situation and prescribes the answer. You buy their expertise and their recommendation. |
| Therapy | Licensed clinical care for mental health. Treats conditions and heals — VCN coaching is not a substitute for this. |
Important disclaimer
